Toll payment choices

The express version

  • There are 2 ways to pay for tolls on the Express Lanes: with an E-ZPass® device or the GoToll mobile app
  • You can ride the Express Lanes for free when you have a carpool of 3 or more people and an E-ZPass® Flex set to HOV ON
  • If you only sometimes use the Lanes, you can pay for tolls on your phone with the GoToll mobile app

Choose from 2 different ways to pay for tolls on the Express Lanes based on how you like to travel. Do you ride the Express Lanes pretty regularly? Take care of your tolls with either an E-ZPass® or an E-ZPass® Flex. And for drivers who only use the lanes every now and again, check out the GoToll app.

E-ZPass® and E-ZPass® Flex

Are you a standard E-ZPass® or an E-ZPass® Flex kind of driver? The standard E-ZPass® is a good choice for drivers who don’t have the need for an HOV traveling mode.

If you plan to drive with 3 or more people in your car, choose E-ZPass® Flex for a toll-free travel option. The E-ZPass® Flex lets you switch between toll-paying and HOV modes based on how many people are riding in your car. Want to know more about using E-ZPass® Flex? Visit our FAQs page.

Visit the E-ZPass® Virginia and E-ZPass® Maryland websites to learn more about how to travel with E-ZPass® in each state.
