Using E-ZPass®

You need an E-ZPass to use the 495 and 95 Express Lanes.

You have two E-ZPass options – standard E-ZPass or E-ZPass® FlexSM.  The E-ZPass you need depends on how you plan to use the Express Lanes.

Do I have to get an E-ZPass Flex?

No. If you don't think you'll travel the 495 or 95 Express Lanes with three or more people in your vehicle then you need a standard E-ZPass. However, if you want to get a toll-free trip on the Express Lanes you need three or more people in your vehicle and an E-ZPass Flex set to HOV mode.

How long does it take for my Express Lanes trip to post to my E-ZPass account?

It takes about 5-7 days for your Express Lanes trip to post to your E-ZPass account. If you have questions about a recent or pending trip, please contact our customer service center.

Before your trip on the Express Lanes:

  • Make sure your E-ZPass is correctly mounted in your car
  • Make sure your E-ZPass account is linked to your license plate
  • Make sure your E-ZPass can be read through the windshield
  • Make sure your E-ZPass account is in good standing with sufficient funds in your account
  • Ensure your address is updated and correct with the DMV
  • Consider setting your account up with auto replenishment to avoid having to remember your balance
